But…in the West we completely misunderstand it and therefore even the medical profession make three massive mistakes in how we deal with it:

Why the hell would we so readily accept stress as a normal part of everyday life when it just gets worse and can end up being debilitating if not properly dealt with?
Stress is not a mental illness: it’s the system working as it should! Stress is a tap on the shoulder from the Unconscious saying:” Oi mate! You’re life’s not working. Stand back. Have a look. And CHANGE something”. But what do we do? We try to cope with it until it becomes really bad. Then we go to the doctor, who signs us off work for a month. We put our feet up and watch telly. What’s changed? NOTHING? So we go back to work and now the in-tray’s twice as high as usual and the next bout of stress is right round the corner. Where does this lead us? A breakdown! I should know!
Finally, how the hell is stress management a solution????? You can’t manage stress: it’s serving a purpose. It’s telling you to make some changes either in your lifestyle or in your thinking…or both!
