(2) Music Matters: Faithless, the Message behind the Music
Mark with Maxi Jazz of Faithless
The first of Mark’s on-going book projects is with Maxi Jazz of Faithless; Mark had been a huge fan since the band’s inception in 1994.
Music Matters is a paradigm-busting book: it brings the worlds of Buddhism, Neuroscience and Self Development together. Each of these has a communication problem: Neuroscience is seen perceived as too complex; Buddhism is considered Eastern and still somewhat irrelevant in the West; Personal Development is seen as a New Age fad.
Music Matters gets to the core of these apparently diverse topics and by overlaying them onto the lyrics of Faithless, the world greatest Dance Band, delivers totally practical life-enhancing guidance for humanity. Every single one of us is amazing; we just need a way of seeing it. Music Matters is that big!
(3) The Stress Manifesto
Mark’s second on-going book project challenges the status quo on Stress.
Society, including the government and the medical profession, has a naive and totally flawed view of this critical topic.
This view is based upon 4 Stress Myths:
– Stress is an inevitable part of modern life. No!
– Stress Management is the Solution. No!
– A small amount of Stress is good for you. No!
– Stress is a mental illness. No!
We need to fundamentally change our thinking on Stress as we are currently sleep- walking into a catastrophe the size of which humanity hasn’t yet experienced. The symptoms of stress are literally everywhere: heart disease, certain cancers, obesity, alcoholism, burnout, breakdowns, trust and community breaking down in society, rising levels of absenteeism form work (authorised and unauthorised), an overloaded health care system (70+% of doctors’ visits are stress-related and they don’t have a real solution).
The current solutions to stress are taking time off and Stress Management. But having a break or taking a holiday is not a solution: it merely re-invigorates one’s energy levels to fend off the next onslaught. Stress Management, by definition, is not a solution. If I’ve got a problem, why would I want to manage it? In fact, Stress Management techniques often add to people’s Stress levels!
